crime runs rampant in the "factory of the world"

this article is about the crime rate in China rising drastically. Robber are robbing in the open streets in broad daylight of Guangzhou, China. Reading this article realy make me feel astonished and horrified. I really cannot believe it if the article did not show me the whole process of how they rob a young lady. As China is going to host the upcoming olympic, this will surely affect their reputation as people from all over the world will be scared about the security in China. I also find that their implement on the punishment is quite harsh as they sentence one to death if he or she just make one mistake. If they did not attempt to kill the victim, I see no reason why they should not give the robber a chance. Instead the government should look into the root of this cause-the increase in crime rate. One effective way to deter crime will be to depoly more policemen to patrol the street regularly rather than staying in the station. The authorities should give the police officers more power to crack down on these robbers. They should keep a high alert and look out for suspicous characters. A better measure will be longer jail terms or fines to these first time offenders. What made this article newsworthy is that this serves to enlighten us about the different society situations in other countries. This remind us not to take the peace in Singapore for granted where he crime is relatively low and the people can be at ease; unlike the civilians in Guangzhou who lives in paranoid and kept on their toes everyday.
